A STORM IS BREWING OVER THE MIRAMICHI

All is calm around the Speedway this week, but a storm is brewing nearby!

Saturday, June 22nd, we are running the 4th Annual Day of 8's Figure 8 Trailer Race and it is lining up to be the most action-packed one yet! Around a dozen trailers have been confirmed so far with more expected this week. Amongst them are Speedway Miramichi veteran Mini Stock, Bomber and Demo driver Randy Girouard and Fredericton's tornado on wheels, RJ Driscoll. Both men are commercial drivers by trade and they're each bringing large campers to carve out a path of destruction through the center of the X!

The Figure 8 Trailer race is contested through as many laps as necessary until only one vehicle remains with its trailer still intact! RJ Driscoll famously went through the #666 camper two years ago after it came to a dead stop in the center of the X, then proceeded to haul the shell of the trailer around the track with his still attached until his SUV couldn't fight any longer and began to burn. He promises to put on a show once again in the 4th running of the Figure 8 Trailer Race after not being able to attend the 2023 running due to an injury.

Kicking off the Day of 8's with Stock Car action will be the Mini Stocks. May saw very minimal car counts in Mini & Street Stocks, so we are hoping for a better turnout this weekend. But small counts aside, Rob Poirier's #0 Acura and JR Lawson's #81 Honda battled it out side to side until the end, with JR claiming the checkers! We can only hope for more cars and more action!

We are anticipating a few more Street Stocks for this event and the drivers never fail to bring the old school excitement to the track! Veteran driver Jason MacCallum is at the top of the rankings after the Spring Smash, but the remaining drivers aren't going to let him pull off two in-a-row so easily.

The Bomber division saw a packed field of 16 cars in May with some super tight and clean racing action! Alex Duguay, one of the youngest competitors out there, pulled away with a Heat and Feature win in his #11. But not far behind him sits Axten MacLean, Riley Connell and John Dickson, all of which have had Feature wins and claimed their spots in Miramichi Bomber history! So get ready for excitement when the rock 'em sock 'em sliding sideways thrill show hits the track for 28 blood pumping laps!

The ladies of the Powderpuff division showed that they didn't come to take it easy this year! The May event seen some bumping and bruising between cars, forcing 2023 Champ Hayley Waugh into the pits early due to a blown tire. Monique Benoit piloted the #007 like a rocket on rails, overtaking nearly the entire field of cars for the victory, leaving the question open to if Hayley's new car is able to contend with the #007 or if we're looking at the new Powder Puff Queen in the making.

The Demo portion of the day will be kicked off, as always, with a 10 Lap Dash for Cash! A new rule to the Demo this season is starting positions for the dash for cash are drawn at the drivers meeting, giving everyone a chance at the pole position and to the winner-takes-all win!

An 8 lap Back-Up Race will be contested, showing that half these guys drive better backward than they do forward.

The Tire Race returns for the first time this season! 8 laps around the oval with tractor tires between the turns, which the drivers need to navigate a circle around every time.

As always, there will be a burnout competition before the Feature events, followed by the Figure 8 Trailer Race.

Ending the night with the Day of 8's Demolition Finale. Dylan Storey took the big win in May and will be trying to get it done twice in a row amongst the best Demo competitors in the Maritimes, which is no easy task. As always, you can expect big car counts, bigger hits and even bigger excitement to cap off the Day of 8's!
